After stopping by Border's to get my magazine fix in (if I bought or subscribed to every magazine I looked at, I'd be dirt poor), I headed to The Cosmetic Market next door. I had read about this yummy soap by the brand Fresh in another blog and when I saw it in the Market, I immediately picked some up. I hope it lives up to the blogger's praise. I think it will though, because its fragrance had already filled the car by the time I got home. Here's a link to the one I bought. I picked up an eyebrow definer pencil thing, as well. I have a kind of strawberry blonde shade of hair and during the warmer months when I spend lots of time outside, my eyebrows get so light they almost disappear.

Abandoned

There is an old abandoned school about 20 minutes from where I live and I've always wanted to go shoot some pictures of the poor thing. It's not that sad of story though; the school was just moved into a nicer, newer building a few minutes away. It's not like it became abandoned because the city didn't have enough money or children to keep it running. It is a little creepy though, and every time I looked up into a window, I expected to see some ghost child staring back at me. (I'm terrible with scary things; I've never even seen a scary movie. It's more the ghost and paranormal things than the blood and guts stuff. I started to watch The Messengers one night, but embarrassingly had to turn it off practically right after the opening scene...)

Anyways, I managed to take some pretty interesting photos with a new film camera I bought. I'm still trying to figure it out, but I feel like the fact that it was film kind of added to the old, abandoned feeling of the pictures. (Let me know if you see any strange shadowy figures...)

Mirror, Mirror on the Wall

Since my previous dollhouse post was so popular, I decided to show another new addition to the house. The bathroom now has a mirror! Hurray! When I purchased the mirror, it was an unattractive goldish, brown color that completely clashed with the rest of the room. So, I spruced it up with some white paint and up it went.

Haven't been working on the dollhouse as much lately as I would like, but I did manage to reupholster a cute little desk chair that is sitting at the landing next to the top of the stairs. It's a kind of vintage looking floral pattern and I just love the colors!

Tea and Toast

Had some tea and toast this morning. Can't get a much better breakfast out of something so simple. The jam I used was so yummy. It was from an organic brand at Whole Foods(I'm trying to do this whole organic/fresh/healthy thing...we'll see how long it lasts).

On another note, I'm going to do a whole update for the store soon. It's looking a little empty right now, but I recently got some great new products to add.

Dollhouse Update: Kitchen

Life has been quite busy lately, hence the lack of blog posts... But I have been working on the dollhouse lately and I feel like the basics of the kitchen are now coming together. I'm trying to go for a kind of country-chic feel with a lot of white and "homey" colors. I need to paint that cabinet white (the one behind the table next to the fridge...) because I feel the dark wood is too overpowering. But I'm in love with the lamp over the table! Found it on eBay... so cute.

Thrift Find: Treasure Chest

I found this cute little treasure chest (a.k.a. a tin box) at the flea market a couple months ago and am still infatuated with it. I love the colors. I think it's supposed to be a Christmas tin, but really I think I'll keep it out all year. Right now it's holding various ribbons and buttons.

It seems I've decided unconsiously to work on one room at a time. Can you guess which room I'm currently working on? Floor trim has been added since this picture was taken as well as a knob for the door. ;)

Now my dollhouse not only has food, but it has books and DVDs as well! Check out these little ones that I made: They were super easy to make... all I did was find pictures of some of my favorite movies (many Disney classics for the kid I imagine living in the house) and childhood books, sized them down, printed them out, glued them to poster board to make them sturdier, and cut them out.

Smoooooothies

I love homemade smoothies. Love them. I don't make them very often, but when I do....mmmmm. I usually don't use recipes, I just throw together whatever fruit we have sitting around in the kitchen. For this one, I used some blueberry yogurt, a chopped and skinned apple and a banana. It was delish. And I had forgotten just how filling smoothies can be. I could only drink half of this before setting it in the fridge for another time. I think the color is kind of pretty, too. It's like this bluish purple pastel color.

Dollhouse Update

I bought some super amazing furniture from Hobby Builders Supply online and it arrived a couple days ago. I'm in love. It's going to take awhile before a room is fully furnished, but I bought a few essential pieces- a kitchen table, a plate ware set, 4 piece furniture set, a sideboard, and a fireplace. The vase on the table is actually a bead that I painted (as are the vases on the fireplaces) and the things sticking out of it are some little baubles I bought at a flea market.
See those colorful things on the couch? Those are "yarn balls" that I made out of embroidery thread.
Can I just tell you how much I'm in love with this fireplace? So romantic...

I still have very little appetite from all of that delicious food: stuffing, rolls, sweet potatoes, green bean casserole, deviled eggs, cookies, pies...mmmmmm so good. Although I didn't manage to get any pictures of the food (it was gone so fast!), I did get some photos of relaxation in the morning.

I've been tagged by Pfeiffer Photos to share 6 quirky things about myself.

1.) I have hitchhikers thumbs. You know, when you can bend the top part of your thumb waaay back...I guess I'm missing bones there or something odd like that. I was going to include pictures, but I decided that it may send you running from my blog. And I really like my readers, I really do. So, if you're really curious, look it up under google and you'll find some lovely pictures there.

2.)I've completed 3 half-marathons. And I loved every minute of each of them.

3.) I am in love with my sharpies. I think they are the most wonderful writing utensil other than the ink pen. I love staring at my jar of sharpies and choosing which color of the rainbow to use.

(This is the only picture I deemed worthy of putting on the blog...once again, sorry for no hitchhiker thumb pictures.)

4.) I have 45 blogs on my favorites list right now. I guess that's not a lot compared to some people, but checking 45 blogs a day can take quite a bit of time. And I don't know how to use RSS feed, so I'm stuck visiting each one every day. (Doesn't RSS feed like email you the post or something?)

5.) I'm trying to become vegetarian. About a week ago, I watched this really terrible movie by a vegetarian organization and it really made me think twice about where my meat comes from. I guess for me, it's more about animal cruelty than about trying to be "healthier" or "help the environment".

6.) I have an embarrassing amount of yarn right now. I say I'm going to do all these projects, knit all these afghans, hats, scarves, washcloths...you name it, I bought yarn to make it. But it ends up just sitting in my yarn basket unused. Maybe over Christmas break I'll get some time to work on all these great projects.

On Clouds of Yarn

With the remainder of the yarn I used to make my hat, I decided to make a scarf. I didn't want a plain scarf (knit, purl, knit, purl...boring, boring), so I decided to look for a new pattern that would hold my beginner's interest. I found this "drop stitch" pattern from Craftlog and fell in love with it.
I really love this yarn. It looks like clouds. I could just sleep in it.

From Window to Masterpiece

And ended up with a masterpiece!I have one window left. I think I'll probably do something a little more abstract...I'm not too crazy about the whole sun/ocean thing I did with this one. I guess it's a good thing I got two!

Sunday, I Love You...

Sundays are by far my favorite day of the week: no work, no school, stress free...only relaxation and occasional knitting. Yesterday was a little cool outside so we started the fire and I began a hat. It was my first hat, so I didn't expect much, but it actually turned out better than I had hoped. Not that I would ever wear it in public...the seam is terrible....I'll have to work on that for the next hat.

The pattern was out of a book called The Yarn Girls' Guide to Beyond the Basics, available on Amazon.com.

It's been a lot cooler here lately, and while I think it's just a cool front coming through, it definitely gets me in an Autumn mood. I love Autumn- not so much the weather (because, as strange as it sounds, I actually love the heat)- but more the 'feeling' in the air, the colors, and the Autumn holidays. Halloween and Thanksgiving are definitely two of my favorite holidays. See anything in common with both? If you guessed food, you're right. :) Speaking of Halloween, what are your plans for Friday night?

Work in Progress: The Dollhouse

I bought the cutest little dollhouse kit at Hobby Lobby over the summer and have been working on it non-stop. After making a huge error at the begining (too confusing to try to explain--and it wasn't the directions; it was my own fault), it has been smooth sailing ever since. This picture was taken about a week ago before I'd put the shingles on. Now that the shingles & porch are on, it looks so much cuter! Check out my flickr for more pictures. The next step: wallpapering.

Project Runway Finale!

Yay for Leanne! I have loved her since the first episode. Her lovely Portland, soft-spoken ways captured my heart the whole season and I'm so happy she won. (I'm almost as happy by the fact that she won as I am by the fact that Kenley didn't...she was so whiney.) Fun fact: Leanne is an Etsy shop owner! Did you know that? I read it on the Etsy forums...but I can't remember the link to her shop. I'll have to do some research and get back to you on that.

Embroidered/Beaded Hoop Project

Fun project I've been working on: Embroidered/beaded fabric attatched to embroidery hoop. I've seen those hoops that just have the fabric stretched on them, but I thought I'd take it a little further and add some beads. I think the first one turned out pretty nicely.

Help? My room is a deep orange color with a red, sage, brown and orange color scheme. It sort of has an exotic look to it; some bamboo sticks here, an oriental lamp there...but this wall is still bare after 5 years. If you look under my Etsy favorites, you can see that half of them are artists whose work I'm considering to add to this blank wall. I'm trying to find that earthy, worldly perfect piece (or pieces...don't you think 3 smaller paintings/prints would work, too?) to hang. Any artists you admire whose work might fit with my scheme?

Quick Update & What I'm Loving

Hey guys, sorry I haven't posted in awhile. School just started and it has been constant movement and work with sadly no time to stop and blog. The weather has been suprisingly nice and the other day I was able to sit outside and read for a while as the sun set. (My literature book seriously weighs like 30 pounds...no kidding.)

So, I have a secret-- I love this shop I just found on Etsy and I'm coveting everything she has for sale. She's this awesome designer who makes camera straps in all these bright fun colors. As much as I love my Cannon Rebel, everytime I wear it around my neck, I get red marks from it's rubbing against my skin. Day of Laziness

Mmmm. Everyone should have an occasional day where they pack a picnic, hit the road and drive to the unknown. It was a lovely picnic and the basket did its job well. Although it didn't turn out the way I'd pictured, the lining proved easier and less complicated than I had anticipated. I may re-line it again sometime in the future, but for now, I think this will do. I'm happy with the fabric-- I think it has a sort of vintage feel to it (which I'm all over, of course!).So, with picnic basket, puppy & two sisters in tow, we set off to a small park I hadn't been to in years. And while I tried to convince the other two that they had indeed been there before as babes, they would not believe. We sat under a huge old tree (don't you love those kinds?) and ate our sandwiches, chips, and homemade brownies. Yum. It was a little on the warm side (fall I'm ready whenever you are) but there was cloud cover, so that helped. Overall it was a lazy, beautiful day.

And I'm off! I've finalized the interior/lining of the basket. It's this buttery vintage-looking flowered fabric. I'm going to have to use the solid yellow also because I'm not sure I have enough of the patterned. Hopefully I'll have enough scraps left over to make some matching napkins.

Oh, and did I mention I need this done by Wednesday?

Thrift Thursday & Work in the Studio

Thrift Thursday! Here's what I picked up at the flea market last weekend:

This amazing picnic basket for $1...it just needs a little sprucing up. I'll probably add some cushioned lining and then a new handle and it'll be ready for some lovely lunches at the park. (Isn't the clasp great?)

Some buttons-- a little on the expensive side: $1 per jar.

New items for the shop! Get excited!

I was also able to get a ton of work done in the studio yesterday. I had a photoshoot this morning and was sprucing up the pictures earlier today. Hopefully I'll begin to list these in the shop either later today or tomorrow.

Look who popped in to take a little nap while I was hard at work. She was so lazy, she couldn't even lift her head to pose for the picture.

Super Simple Egg Salad

I have a thing for salads. Not the leafy, healthy, green kind of salads. No, I'm talking egg salad, potatoe salad, bean salad. Those kinds of salads where it's a big yummy mixture. The other day I made an egg salad for lunch from a recipe that I love. I found this particular recipe on allrecipes.com. If you haven't checked that site out before, definitely pop on over and do some exploring. I've found some pretty amazing lunch/dinner ideas just from browsing around. The name of this recipe is Jen's Heavenly Egg Salad- and let me tell you- it really is heavenly. SO creamy and super simple. If you're looking for a quick yummy lunch sandwich and you loove salads(you know what kind I'm talking about!)--try this out.

Tomorrow I'm taking a trip to the Nashville flea market. LOVE! I'll take some pics and show you what I scored when I get back. I also might stop by the Antique Mall. I've never been, but it's right near the flea market and I've read it's pretty neat. Might as well save on gas and do them both in one trip.

Sneak peak at what's coming your way in the shop. I love this brooch. And I really love it against the coral colored scarf. It's funny; when I picked it up at the flea market, the seller says, "That's an old one. A reeaally old one." I'm kicking myself now for not asking her guess of the decade it came from. Any thoughts? Dinosaur age? I think I'll go with that...

Packaging Predicament

I try with my packaging. I really do. But compared to my fellow Estians and crafters, mine looks as if a 10 year old put it together. A couple sheets of colorful tissue paper, a ribbon, and a little note with a fun stamp. I've wondered about adding a little sample in there- a vintage button or some extra lace. But according to the Etsy forums, many people don't enjoy these extra freebies. (Pfff, I know I love getting free little goodies! Hint, hint...) So, thus far, none of my orders have included anything special. It may come in the future though... Any thoughts on this? Do you enjoy the little extras sellers throw in? Or is it just waste?

The Dreaded Introduction

I am the owner of Ooh! Vintage, a lovely etsy boutique filled with vintage supplies and other goodies! I'm fairly young...still in school, actually. But, no matter. I have a large personality and big dreams. Sappy, huh? ( See? I told you I'm bad at introductions!) I have one puppy, Miss Lola, which you will see many pictures of. Trust me. I shoot with a Canon Rebel- which I love so dearly but have yet to give a name. (Help?) This blog is a work in progress, so bear with me.
